Papanek Rose & Associates has been serving the metropolitan Chicago area as attorneys since 2016. Before that time, our founding attorneys were partners in Erickson-Papanek-Peterson-Rose, and its previous firms, for many years. The firm partners are Samuel Papanek, III, Heather J. Rose, and Grant D. Erickson (of counsel).
A large portion of the firm’s work is in the area of estate planning, probate, estate and trust administration, income taxation (individual and fiduciary), and estate and gift taxation. The firm also represents privately owned corporations in general corporate business matters, individuals and corporations in the area of commercial and residential real estate, and a large number of not-for-profit corporations. The firm does not engage in litigation as a general part of its practice. The firm has a staff of full and part-time secretaries, clerical staff and paralegals with many years of association with our firm.

Samuel Papanek, III focuses his practice on estate and tax planning and post mortem estate and trust administration, individual and fiduciary income taxation, and gift and estate taxation. Sam received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Northwestern University in 1967, and his Juris Doctor from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago Kent College of Law in 1970. Prior to joining the firm of Papanek Rose & Associates, and its predecessor firms, he worked with Arthur Andersen & Company and Continental Bank.
Heather J. Rose concentrates her practice in the areas of estate planning, probate, estate and trust administration, not-for-profit corporations, real estate, individual and fiduciary income taxation, and estate and gift taxation. Heather graduated from Hope College in Holland, Michigan, Phi Beta Kappa, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in French in 1997. She received her Juris Doctor in 2000 from John Marshall Law School where she graduated with honors. She is licensed to practice law in the states of Minnesota, Florida, Illinois, and Michigan.
Samuel de Jong earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Gordon College, Wenham, Massachusetts, Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Arts in International Economics and French in 2005. After college, he served in the Peace Corps in Chad working with English as Second Language and community development. He later went on to attend Chicago-Kent Law school and graduated in 2012. Upon graduation, Samuel became an associate at De Jong Law Group, specializing in Federal Tort Claims Act and Res Ispe Loquitor claims. Sam started his own firm, Arbor Law, specializing in Estate Planning prior to joining Papanek, Rose and Associates in 2018. Sam concentrates his practice in the areas of estate planning, probate, and estate and trust administration. Beyond his work as an attorney, Sam enjoys reading, going on hiking trips with his wife, and running with his dogs.
Joanne Gold recently joined the firm. Joanne graduated from from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1982 and Washington College of Law, American University, in Washington, D.C., in 1986. Joanne focuses her practice on residential real estate. In addition to practicing law, Joanne is the co-founder and project facilitator of Blanketed by Love, a charitable initiative that provides handmade blankets and other comfort items to people in need.
Grant D. Erickson (of counsel) focuses his practice in the areas of not-for-profit organizations, real estate, and estate planning. Grant graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Business in 1959 and Northwestern University School of Law in 1962. He has been an attorney with the firm and its predecessor firms from the beginning of his legal career in 1963.
